I have enjoyed success in the Construction and Design field for over 20 years. Goals include accuracy in CAD drafting and cost estimating during design and construction.
Management Applications:
1) Begin from the inside out: A clearly articulated mission attracts talent to the project or task.
2) Create shared accountability: Set clear goals for manager and supporting staff. Goals and/or responsibilities are always in writting, objective and mutually agreed upon fostering accountability.
3) Be open to change: Create a culture that attacks the status quo. Be open to new and better ways to accomplish goals. This includes learning from mistakes moving towards improvement.
4) Establish a culture of open communication: Seek to understand, then be understood involving open-ended questions. After gaining persective it is possible to build on ideas, learing from tried mistakes and educating the team through open-ended questions.
5) Create channels encouraging employee/team feedback: Create structured employee/team exchange. This allows feedback fostering actionable results and an empowered team.
6) Don't bury problems, bring them to light: Hiring and mentoring people measuring progress towards goals. This can alleviate problems arising related to strategy, execution and culture.
